Leading architect appointed to future cities panel

Leading architect and urban designer John Denton has been appointed by the Prime Minister Kevin Rudd to an expert panel reviewing capital city strategic planning systems.

The panel will support the Council of Australian Governments’ Reform Council, which will review planning systems to ensure they meet the agreed national criteria to make Australia's cities more productive, sustainable and liveable.

Chairing the panel is Brian Howe, professorial associate at the Centre for Public Policy at the University of Melbourne and a former Labor deputy prime minister. The deputy chair is Lucy Turnbull and the other members are Sue Holliday, Professor Duncan MacLennan, Jude Munro, Rod Pearse and Meredith Sussex.

John Denton is a Director of Denton Corker Marshall, the acclaimed Australian-owned international architecture and design practice. He is renowned for his work on major landmark buildings and urban projects, both in Australia and internationally. He formerly served in an advisory role to the Victorian Government as State Government Architect.

John is a graduate in Architecture and Town Planning from the University of Melbourne, a Life Fellow of the Australian Institute of Architects and a Fellow of the Planning Institute of Australia.
